Description

The Potting Shed restaurant offers the opportunity to learn the basics around wild foraging, from spotting and identifying plants, their characteristics as well as some of the look-alikes to stay clear of.

Join us in the morning for breakfast, consisting of hot English muffins & wraps, fruit, yoghurts, cereals & pastries before heading out with your guide, Alvaro on the Sheriffs ride path for a 2 hour walk towards cross in hand lane and the village of Chorley to see what you can spot, Alvaro will tell you all about the plants you see and how to spot the subtle difference between safe to eat plants and their pesky look-alikes as well as the best time to pick and the importance of responsible foraging.

Once you are done Alvaro will lead you back to the restaurant for a 4 course seasonal lunch.

This is for you if:

  • You feel drawn to nature but unsure where to begin
  • You want trustworthy guidance without being talked down to
  • You’re curious about wild food but wary of getting it wrong
  • You’re looking for a slower, more meaningful relationship with food

You don’t need experience. You don’t need special gear. You don’t need to call yourself a forager you just need curiosity.

Meet Alvaro – your guide for the day and founder of Flatcap forager

Alvaro is a West Midlands based forager and educator focused on helping people reconnect with nature in a clear, grounded way. His work centres on offering practical, experience-based guidance
on identifying wild edible plants that builds real confidence over time.

With a strong emphasis on observation and the senses, he encourages a slower way of engaging with the landscape—learning plants not as abstract names, but as living ingredients with flavour,
character, and place.
His approach blends traditional knowledge with everyday use, showing how wild food can move from curiosity to something genuinely useful in the kitchen.
